THE VALUE
OF PROCESS

WHAT

The Value of Process emphasizes the slow pace of traditional embroidery processes while abstracting the traditional natural motifs to emphasize texture over imagery. The Value of Process explores the theme of value in terms of my artistic work, material items, and the people in my life. Looking at two women who have added value to my life, and how they intersect with myself. I embroidered three salvaged blazers, using discarded post-consumer textile waste that I harvested from the subjects to create my designs. This process of labor and artistry gives virtually useless materials newfound value. At the end of the exhibition, these embroidered jackets will be gifted back to the subjects, wrapped in personalized packaging, and therefore given greater value through labor. This work projects a possible future for sustainable clothing production that emphasizes a close interactive relationship among designer, garment, and wearer.
